How I Discovered My Purpose in Life

I remember the moment I decided I wanted to pursue a degree in filmmaking. I was in community college and it took me about 10 weeks to realize what I truly wanted to do with my life.

It started when I was watching “Good Will Hunting”, Matt Damon’s performance as Will Hunting made me realize my true ambitions as a screenwriter and filmmaker. Will is an intelligent man who doesn’t realize his natural born gifts, and much rather be a laborer the rest of his life. Chuckie tells him not to waste his potential and to pursue something better, because he can. It dawned on me, that I have the ability to be as great as someone like Matt Damon, to write a screenplay and inspire people with my films.

For only a couple of weeks into community college, I became enthralled by people’s behaviors and mind during my deep and intellectual conversations with them, about cinema, music and society. I met people ranging from the ages of 18 to 32, and connecting with them on a deeper level, made me realize that I wanted to pursue a film degree. It wasn’t an overnight decision and it certainly didn’t make my parents happy.

Since then, I’ve done many internships at different companies in different roles. I’ve worked in social media, marketing, creative and writing roles. Some roles I was paid, some roles I wasn’t paid and I didn’t mind it because I was…
